Just outside of Batticaloa, enjoy a nice and long walk on Kallady beach. Early risers can enjoy gorgeous sunrises (the show starts at 5-5.30AM). They can also meet the fishermen and help them pulling the net out of the water. Proceed further for about 4 kilometers on this vast unspoilt sandy beach to Navalady and reach the tip of the beach, to admire the estuary, where Batticaloa lagoon finally meets the sea. Kallady beach is very famous in Batticaloa, many families visit it during their free time, especially the area near Saravana road. Have a look at Thiruchentoor Hindu temple, which was damaged by the tsunami and then rebuilt. Swimming is possible for good swimmers, as the sea can be a bit rough, and there are no lifeguards around. Here again, cultural sensitivity is appreciated, and visitors are encouraged to keep a t-shirt and shorts (for females) or bermuda shorts (for males) while bathing, to blend themselves in the vibe of this local beach.

From Batticaloa, cross Kallady Bridge, then turn on the left side on Saravana Road and proceed right away upto the beach. It is also possible to turn left on Dutch Bar Road, and to take the small lanes of Kallady and Thiruchentoor to reach the beach.
